Stubborn Verruca?
Microwave Therapy is an advanced verruca treatment developed in the UK and widely used by podiatrists and dermatologists. The treatment delivers controlled microwave energy through a specialised probe directly to the affected tissue.
How SWIFT Works
SWIFT Microwave Therapy works in a different way to traditional verruca treatments such as acids or freezing. Instead of attempting to destroy the verruca from the surface, SWIFT delivers a short burst of microwave energy directly into the affected tissue.
This energy stimulates the body’s natural immune response, helping it recognise and fight the virus responsible for the verruca. Because the treatment targets the underlying cause, it can be effective even for stubborn or long-standing verrucae.
The treatment itself is very quick, with each application lasting only a few seconds. Most appointments take just a few minutes, allowing you to return to normal daily activities straight away.
Why Patients Choose SWIFT
Many patients choose SWIFT because it offers a modern alternative to traditional verruca treatments.
Benefits include:
• No need for acids or harsh chemicals
• No dressings or ongoing home treatment required
• Quick appointments with minimal disruption to daily life
• Suitable for stubborn or long-standing verrucae
• No downtime after treatment
Frequently asked questions...
What is a verruca? A verruca is a type of wart that occurs on the sole of the foot. Verrucae are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and produce small, raised lesions on the skin which can often be extremely painful to walk on particularly when in weight bearing areas.
What do they look like? Usually appears as a small area of rough, thickened skin on the sole of the foot. It may have a grainy surface with tiny black dots inside, which are small clotted blood vessels. Verrucae are often flattened by body weight and can feel firm or tender when pressure is applied while walking or standing.
Does SWIFT hurt? To be honest, yes it can. BUT, unlike other verruca treatments discomfort is short lived. You will receive 5, two second treatments, and some people describe a short, sharp pain that comes as quickly as it goes. It is very rare to experience prolonged discomfort.
How many treatments will I need? This is dependent on how you respond to treatment. In most cases, you will need more than one treatment which are spaced 1 month apart. The vast majority of cases will require 3 treatments and so we deliver our SWIFT package of care as x 3 applications and x 1 follow-up appointment at 12 weeks. Your Podiatrist will be able to discuss this with you. In some cases, additional treatments may be required in cases of particularly stubborn lesions. There have been cases that have gone up to as many as 10 treatments. But the average is 3-4 treatments.
Is SWIFT guaranteed to work? No verruca treatment can be guaranteed to work, as each person’s immune response to the virus is different. However, SWIFT Microwave Therapy has shown very good success rates in clinical studies and is particularly effective for stubborn verrucae that have not responded to other treatments. Your podiatrist will assess your verruca and discuss whether SWIFT is likely to be a suitable option for you.
